This project was assigned by Professor Sam Cush, requiring us to exclude traditional illustrative elements from our book covers, emphasizing the importance of letterforms and overall composition. The book's subject matter revolves around the Salem witch trials, drawing parallels to Arthur Miller's experiences with McCarthyism. Inspired by these themes, I decided to incorporate design elements that contrast with the core narrative, specifically by mimicking aspects from Russian illuminated manuscripts. This choice included intricate filigree borders and organic initials, which create a striking visual juxtaposition that enhances the thematic depth of the story while adhering to the project’s parameters.
